This is an abstract representation of the country around the Pilbara in the north west of Western Australia, where red is the main colour of the soil. The soil is loaded with iron ore, and the colour comes from the rusting of the ore when it comes into contact with oxygen on the surface. In some areas, Mitchell Grass grows in great swathes, and has a leached out yellow colour when mature.
